Sarina Tendouji「天童寺 さりな, Tendōji Sarina?」 was a pivotal character in Oshi no Ko. She was a child patient under Gorou Amamiya's care and a fan of Ai Hoshino, which rubbed off on the former. Following her death from anaplastic astrocytoma, she ends up being reincarnated as Ai's child, Ruby.
Sarina had wide pale-blue eyes and shoulder-length hair. However, towards the end of her life, she gradually lost her hair and presumably became bald as her condition worsened due to her sickness: anaplastic astrocytoma.
In the majority of her appearances, Sarina wore a wool hat with a heart pattern on its brim, adorning it with a bunny pin, Ai Hoshino's signature symbol. Alongside it is a purplish pink cardigan, pink pants and blue sandals.
Personality[]
On the surface, Sarina appeared energetic despite her illness, especially when talking about her oshi, Ai Hoshino, or teasing Gorou Amamiya. Sarina was very passionate about Ai, having watched all her recordings and memorized her choreography down to the smallest details.
However, because of her illness, Sarina was depressed by her inability to move as she pleased and became scared of falling, subconsciously bracing herself to fall whenever she attempted to walk by herself. This fear carried on to her next life as Ruby Hoshino, but she managed to overcome it thanks to Ai's guidance.
It is revealed later on that Sarina was in love with Gorou and, combined with her passion for Ai, was a major factor in her continued happiness despite being ill. Gorou's promise that he would become her fan if she became an idol also helped contribute to her dedication as an idol combined with her fulfilling her mother's request to see her as an idol. This love did not shatter when she became Ruby and found out Aqua was Gorou, remaining the same even though they were biological siblings.
The name Sarina is written in hiragana (さりな), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (咲梨菜, 紗利奈, 紗里愛, 紗莉菜, 小鈴奈, 颯鈴奈, 彩里奈, 砂里奈, 沙里菜, 叉梨那 or 佐梨奈), it could possibly mean:
Sarina's surname Tendouji means "cherub, gods disguised as children, children parading as cherubs" (天童) (tendou) and "temple" (寺) (ji). There is a temple in China named Tiantong Temple, which has the same kanji as Sarina's surname.
Trivia[]
Sarina and Gorou's surnames are not revealed until Chapter 75.
