Oshi no Ko「【推しの子】?. lit. "My Favorite Idol, Their Idol's Children"; English: "My Star"」 is a Japanese manga series written by Aka Akasaka and drawn by Mengo Yokoyari. The manga was published in Weekly Young Jump (issue 21) starting April 23, 2020, and concluding on November 14, 2024.

On January 2023, Yen Press began an official English publication of the series, releasing the first English volume on January 17, 2023.[1]

Synopsis[]

In the world of entertainment, lies are weapons.

Gorou is a gynecologist and idol fan who’s in shock after his favorite star, Ai, announces an impromptu hiatus. Little does Gorou realize that he’s about to forge a bond with her that defies all common sense![1]

Prologue: Childhood[]

Childhood (Prologue) 幼年期 (プロローグ) , Yōnen-ki (Purorōgu) ?」 is the first arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It span the entire first volume of the manga and tells the story of how Gorou reincarnated into the son of his oshi, Ai Hoshino, and his childhood as Aqua Hoshino.

Show Business[]

Show Business「芸能界, Geinō-kai?」 is the second arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It span the entire second volume of the manga and tells the story of the twins entering high school and becoming teenagers, and slowly working themselves into the showbiz/entertainment world for their own personal reason.

Dating Reality Show[]

Dating Reality Show「恋愛リアリティショー, Ren'ai Riariti Shō?」 is the third arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It span the entire third volume and first two chapters of the fourth volume of the manga and tells the story of Aqua entering the reality TV show We're About to Fall in Love for Real (also known as LoveforReal) in order to gain information regarding Ai from the producer Kaburagi.

The First Concert[]

The First Concert「ファーストステージ, Fāsutosutēji?」 is the fourth arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It spans the rest of the fourth volume, and covers the induction of Mem-Cho into the newly revived B-Komachi idol group, which was Ai Hoshino's previous idol group, and their appearance in the Japan Idol Festival.

2.5D Stage Play[]

2.5D Stage Play「2.5次元舞台, 2.5-Jigen butai?」 is the fifth arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It spans the fifth, sixth, and the first six chapters of the seventh volume of the manga. It covers the preparation of stage play adaptation of a famous manga, Tokyo Blade, and the opening night of the play.

Private[]

Private「プライベート, Puraibēto?」 is the sixth arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It spans the rest of the seventh volume and eighth volume of the manga. It covers the shocking revelation that Aqua has found regarding the mystery of his father, along with covering for the music video shooting of B-Komachi's new song in Miyazaki, the birthplace of Aqua and Ruby along with the place where both of their previous lives, Gorou and Sarina, ended.

Mainstay[]

Mainstay「中堅, Chūken?」 is the seventh arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It spans the ninth and tenth volume of the manga. It covers Ruby Hoshino as she began making her way on the entertainment world through featuring at a web variety show that Aqua is starring, and later on, follows Aqua as he discover the hidden secrets of both his sister, and the continuing mystery of their father.

Scandal[]

Scandal「スキャンダル, Sukyandaru?」 is the eighth[note 1] arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It spans the first eight chapters of the eleventh volume of the manga, and it covers the potential scandal involving Kana Arima after a sordid picture of her with an up and coming movie director are taken by a paparazzi, and the drastic measure taken to alleviate the problem by Aqua Hoshino.

Movie[]

Movie「映画, Eiga?」 is the ninth arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It covers the production of the documentary movie The 15 Year Lie, including the fundraising and casting of the characters involved, the auditioning for the role of Ai Hoshino, which ended up being played by Ruby Hoshino, and the filming of said movie.

The End of the Play[]

The End of the Play「終劇によせて, Tsui Geki Ni Yosete?」 is the tenth arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It's a wrap for The 15 Year Lie and following a heart-to-heart, Akane Kurokawa pushes Kana Arima to confess her feelings for Aqua Hoshino. Meanwhile, Aqua Hoshino deliberate on himself and the things that happened during the movie filming, as the movie is released to the general public.

Toward the Stars and Dreams[]

Toward the Stars and Dreams「星に夢に, Hoshi Ni Yume Ni?」 is the eleventh and final arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. With the release of the movie The 15 Year Lie, Aqua Hoshino confronts his father over the past.

On August 18, 2021, the promotional Twitter account for Oshi no Ko began a project called Oshi no Ko Icon Present「【#推しの子】アイコンプレゼント, Oshi no ko aikon purezento?」 commemorating the release of Volume 5, with the release of an icon image featuring Ruby Hoshino, with other icons planning to be released as the account hit bigger follower milestones.[2]

After reaching 100,000 followers, the Twitter account released a phone wallpaper featuring members of B-Komachi, and started releasing chibi version of Oshi no Ko characters. After reaching 140,000 followers, the Twitter account begin releasing various icons of Oshi no Ko characters from Shonen Jump+ Extras, colored chapter cover pages, and volume covers. At 200,000 followers, the Twitter account released another phone wallpaper featuring members of B-Komachi.

Mem-Cho icon

As of October 2023, the last follower milestone reached are 290,000 followers, with the picture of Mem-Cho released as an icon.

On September 5, 2022, the promotional Twitter account for Oshi no Ko began a new Twitter project called Oshi no Ko Recording In Progress「推しの子収録中, Oshi no ko shūroku-chū?」, with the aim to present scenes from the manga in color format and "cut out like a TV program" every Monday at 5PM JST, with the release of colored panels of Ai from Chapter 4.[3]

As of December 25, 2023, the project has ended, with the final release of the colored panel of Ai along with baby Aqua and Ruby from Chapter 68[4], and the project in total has released 69 colored panels of Oshi no Ko manga.

Oshi no Ko has also been featured on the cover of magazines other than Weekly Young Jump published by Shueisha to promote the series.

In April 2021, Oshi no Ko have over one million copies of volumes in circulation.[5]

Accolades[]

In August 2021, Oshi no Ko was nominated for the Next Manga Award「次にくるマンガ大賞, Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō?」 for printed manga category and won first place.[6]
