Oshi no Ko「【推しの子】, "Their Idol's Children", "My Star"?」 is the live action adaptation of Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari's Oshi no Ko manga series.

The project was announced on January 24, 2024, along with the announcement of the main cast.[1] The drama series premiered on Amazon Prime Video, with the six episodes on November 27, 2024, and the remaining two on December 4, 2024. A film to conclude the adaptation, titled Oshi no Ko -The Final Act- premiered in Japanese theaters on December 20, 2024. [2] Following the theatrical run, the film premiered on Amazon Prime Video on April 18, 2025.[3]

When an on-set incident causes a co-star, Akane Kurokawa, to be hazed by the public, Aqua grows furious with the showrunners for allowing the controversy to rage, and quells the flames by revealing the true nature of the "reality show."
4 Live Action Episode 4 Ruby, Mem-cho and Kana prepare for their official idol unit debut and decide on the unit name B-Komachi, reviving the name of Ai's group. Thanks to Mem-cho's connections as an online influencer, B-Komachi earns a slot to perform at the Japan Idol Fest, their biggest chance at a breakout yet.
5 Live Action Episode 5 The TV version of hit comic Tokyo Blade snags when its author, Abiko Samejima, insists on rewriting the script. Aqua’s PTSD is triggered when emoting on set as the director demands. B-Komachi performs at the Japan Idol Fest where Mem-cho and Ruby sparkle, but Kana feels left out until she sees a fan waving a white lightstick: her color.
6 Live Action Episode 6 After Aqua’s collapse, Akane deduces that Aqua and Ruby's real mother must be Ai, and surmises Aqua’s purpose. Tokyo Blade ratings plummet until Abiko finally collaborates with the producer and teleplay writer, Goa. Aqua continues to collect DNA samples from actors he meets until he discovers a certain key person to be his half-brother.
7 Live Action Episode 7 Aqua finds his half-brother in the "Lala Lai Theatrical Company," but learns his father is dead. Freed from his vendetta, Aqua muses over living his own life. B-Komachi films a music video on location, which happens to be near Aqua and Ruby’s birthplace. Ruby stumbles upon the body of the gentle doctor Goro she was enamored with in her past life. December 5, 2024
8 Live Action Episode 8 Ruby is determined to find Ai and Goro’s killer as B-Komachi poises for a breakout. Aqua finds former Ichigo Production president, missing since Ai's death, and learns his own father may actually be alive. Kana is embroiled in a potentially scandalous tabloid article, which compels Aqua to trade its publication for scoop information of his own.


Adaptation Differences[]

The adaptation feature significant differences to the source material, including but not limited to:

  • The timeline of events is more defined and clearly outlined. For example:
    • Airi Himekawa and Seijuro Uehara were found dead on September 16, 2011.
    • B-Komachi's scheduled performance at the Tokyo Dome and Ai's death took place on November 29, 2011. It can possibly be speculated that Ai's birthday is November 29, 1991.
    • LoveForReal aired between October and December 2022.
    • Tokyo Blade aired between January and March 2023, with the finale aired on March 20, 2023.
  • Many events also happen at different times. For example:
    • Ai's DVDs are to be passed down to the twins when they turn 18 instead of 15.
    • Kana reunites with the twins after they have successfully entered Youtou High instead of during their application process.
    • Production for Tokyo Blade adaptation begins before the new incarnation of B-Komachi's debut performance at JIF.
    • Aqua finding Ichigo, his subsequent breakdown where Kana finds him, Kana meeting Shima and Aqua's call to Akane all take place on the same night.
  • B-Komachi's original generation had 5 members instead of 7 (Takamine and Watanabe did not appear) and all of them were also the founding members, including Ai.
    • Nino is seen wearing a penguin hairpin and yellow dress instead of a panda hairpin and green dress, similar to how Kyun appeared in anime.
    • Meimei is seen wearing a frog hairpin and green dress instead of a cat hairpin and orange dress.
    • Ari is seen wearing a panda hairpin and blue dress instead of a hamster hairpin and purple dress.
    • Kyun is seen wearing a hamster hairpin and orange dress instead of penguin hairpin and yellow dress.
  • Ichigo Production, Inc was not active after Ai's death, and Miyako revives it. In the original source material, the company stayed open. As such, Miyako's office is at their house rather than a dedicated agency office.
    • As such, Pieyon is introduced as a friend of Miyako and not a signed talent of the company.
  • Aqua, in order to find out more about the agency, who became interested in Ruby, does not lead Lara to Ichigo Production, Inc. Instead, he leads her to the cafe and asks her there, imperceptibly recording their talk on a smartphone’s voice recorder, and after his return he gives Miyako to listen the voice recording.
  • LoveForReal is primarily filmed at a beach house instead of a school.
  • Aqua never disguises himself as Pieyon throughout.
  • B-Komachi's current generation, before their stage debut on JIF, goes to Nogizaka46's concert to figure out what kind of idol group they want to be.
  • Some minor characters such a Mana Suzushiro and three otaku fans were not introduced in order to more focus on the main characters of the story.
  • Several aspects of the 2.5D Stage Play arc are drastically changed from the original, such as:
    • Instead of a battle shonen series, Tokyo Blade is now a whodunit mystery and the story is different, utilizing a supernatural element to its plot.
    • Some of the characters whom the cast play have different names. Taiki now plays Kento, and Aqua plays Toma.
    • Tokyo Blade is a TV drama instead of a stage play. As such, due to the nature of on-camera filming as opposed to stage performances, Abiko and Goa working together to rewrite the script lasts though the entirely of filming as opposed to be done before rehearsals began.
    • Raida does not make Abiko watch a show/movie written by Goa. Instead, Abiko is framed to have already seen one of Goa's previous works beforehand and praise it immensely only to realize that Goa had ghost-written it.
    • Melt Narushima is not part of the project and Mako Azami is casted for the role of Tsubame.
    • Kana would replace at the last minute after the actress playing Tsurugi forced to drop out due to injury.
    • The TV drama airs at a prime time slot, Kana being the lead actress gains a significant amount of popularity during this time and B-Komachi would use this surge of popularity for their own benefit as well.
  • Gorou and Sarina bury a time capsule containing tickets to a B-Komachi concert.
  • Instead of producing POP IN 2, Himura produces Twilight for B-Komachi, which they would use for their music video.
  • Tsukuyomi is not introduced in the story and Ruby learns the events from a nurse who is still working at the hospital.
  • Scenes featuring Gorou's meeting a pregnant Ai are moved to The Final Act.

  • In Episode 2, Yura Katayose has a cameo appearance in the form of billboards.
  • The actors who portray the cast of We're About to Fall in Love for Real, namely Hiromu Kuroda (Kengo), Kaito Sakurai (Aqua), Naenano (Yuki), and Taro Hiiragi (Nobuyuki), have all participated in the same reality dating show, Who is a Wolf? or Don't be Fooled by Wolves「オオカミくんには騙されない, Ōkami-kun ni wa damasarenai?」, albeit across different seasons.
    • Other members of the cast have also participated in the show, namely Mokudai Kazuto (Ryosuke) and Nagisa Saito (Ruby).
      • Notably, Taro Hiiragi and Nagisa Saito were partners in the same season.
    • Other members of the cast have also made guest appearances on the show, namely Mirai Shida (Abiko) and Coki Yamashita (Taiki).
  • The TV station that Tokyo Blade airs on is called Fujimi, which is a parody of a real-life Japanese TV station Fuji TV, and the timeslot that the show is airing on (Monday 9pm) is known as a Getsuku.
    • Shows airing during Getsuku are generally of the romance or crime/whodunit genre. This would explain the radical changes of Tokyo Blade as it is originally a battle shonen series in the source material.
