Movie「映画, Eiga?」 is the ninth arc of Oshi no Ko manga series. It covers the production of the documentary movie The 15 Year Lie, including the fundraising and casting of the characters involved, the audition for the role of Ai Hoshino—in contention between Ruby Hoshino, Frill Shiranui, and Akane Kurokawa among other actresses—and the filming process of the entire movie.
Summary[]
Part 1: Pre-Production[]
Taking advantage of this opportunity that the expose has brought, director Gotanda decides to take this opportune moment to finish the work he started 15 years ago, a movie about Ai. With Kaburagi onboard as the producer and a script primarily written by Aqua, they set out to gather the necessary funds to produce the movie.
After gathering enough from the various sponsors, the process moves to the casting. At behest of one of the sponsors, Kaburagi has Frill as the primary candidate for the role of Ai with Akane as the backup but Gotanda has other ideas as he wants Ruby for the role. Frill finds out the impasse and arranges the audition herself among the other candidates with Ruby ultimately winning out.
With the lead role sorted, the rest of the casting as well as other production decisions are finalized in relative short order. Kaburagi and Gotanda are then approached by an advertising agency. By coincidence, Aqua finds out the person in charge was Marina Tendouji, Ruby's biological mother in her previous life. At the same time, Ruby is having a hard time getting into the tole of her mother due to her own experience with her mothers. All this leads to Ruby breaking down while clutching the keychain she found on Gorou's corpse, which Aqua finds out. Realizing their shared history, Aqua at last reveals his past life to Ruby and the two finally reconcile their differences from the fallout of the expose.
After the two reconcile, and have a heart-to-heart talk, it improves Ruby's mental health but she is still beleaguered with a packed schedule. This situation brought stress to both Ruby and Miyako, but a "chance" encounter with Ichigo (set up by Aqua) proves to help, as he was roped back in by Miyako to help manage the company while Miyako herself become the twins' manager.
As the filming of the movie approaches, the filming are scheduled and the script are finalized, but one casting remains: a child actor that can play both Aqua and Ruby as a child. Aqua was visited by the mysterious girl who Ruby met in Takachiho, and goaded her to take on the role, claiming that she can't do it. Annoyed, the mysterious girl accepted.
Part 2: Production[]
The production of the movie The 15 Year Lie begins with a script reading, as everyone's role is revealed. Most of the actors are drafted from the provisional cast list, such as Melt, Frill, and Akane, but they take on different roles, being Gorou Amamiya, Airi Himekawa, and Takamine respectively. Taiki is casted in the role that he was shortlisted for, his legal father Seijuro Uehara whereas Aqua is casted as his father, Hikaru Kamiki. Meanwhile Mem-Cho and Kana take on the role of the former B-Komachi members Meimei and Nino respectively. Lastly, the mysterious crow girl, who now goes by the stage name of Tsukuyomi is cast as young Aqua and Ruby.
Before the script reading, many of the cast members interacted with each other. Director Gotanda noticed during the script reading how well Tsukuyomi is acting and compared her to Aqua's acting when he was a child, and he solemnly wondered about the meaning of a line Ai muttered in a DVD she left behind for the twins. After the script reading is over, they have a costume fitting session, and everyone is taken aback by how much Ruby looked like Ai.
The first day of shooting begins with a scene between the members of B-Komachi. Ruby was tricked by Gotanda to act on her first scene repeatedly, so that she can bring out the proper emotion out of her. After the first scene is over, the filming continues, and Mem-Cho feel the pressure of the filming set's atmosphere, and her own inexperience of being an actor, but resolved to tough it out because she has the experience of being a streamer. She has a talk with Aqua about his reason for filming this movie, and he reveals that he had Abiko and Yoriko helping him writing the script for the movie. Later on, it is implied that he is doing this movie in part because of Ai's final request to him, which remains a mystery.
Later, despite Kana's best efforts to help, Ruby struggles with getting into the role of Ai. Eventually Kana risks her own friendship with Ruby to get her to better understand her mother. The decision led to a frosty few days between the two but it culminates to an outstanding ad-lib performance from Ruby. Following this scene, Ruby forgives and reconciles with Kana, reaffirming their friendship. Meanwhile Hikaru, who has become aware of the project, decides to participate by becoming a sponsor of the movie.
As the days wear on, Aqua eventually takes on the role of his father and his backstory is revealed. He was abused by Airi during his time at Lala Lai and that's when he began his relationship with Ai. Meanwhile the cast cannot help but discuss the kissing scene between Hikaru and Ai, which would be portrayed by the Hoshino siblings. While some are disgusted by the idea, there are also those who are excited by it. For Aqua's part, he reluctantly accepts the responsibility and the scene went off without issue.
Soon it was Tsukuyomi's turn to portray the twins during their childhood. The twins as well as Kana find her portrayal to be too cute but she cannot help it as that is how she remembers them. She then reminisces the time she was rescued by Sarina and Gorou as a crow and the memories of staying by their side until Sarina's untimely passing. Eventually it was time to film the climax where Hikaru finally reveals Airi's infidelity to Seijuro, which promptly led to the two's murder suicide. Meanwhile Ruby prays at shrine but is approached by her father, whom she does not recognize. The two talk about wishes but their meeting is cut short by Akane. Not long after, filming comes to a close.

Trivia[]
- This is the longest arc of Oshi no Ko manga series so far, covering 39 chapters.
- There are several errors in the way filmmaking is depicted.
- There are rules regarding the use of the clapperboard. Generally speaking, it should only be used once per take, usually done at the start of a scene but it can used at the end as well. However, it is used multiple times for various scenes.
- The term cut of "Cut #" would not be a term used while the film is being filmed as cuts are generally referred to transitions from one scene to another, which only becomes apparent during editing. If it was scene, it would also contradict with what is written on the clapperboard.
- On more than one occasion, the staff would speak while the cameras are rolling but they should not be doing as their voice would be picked up by microphones.
