Oshi no Ko Wiki

"I know you. Are you the one in Sweet Today? I heard people talking about it... So I watched it. You were good."
―Frill Shiranui to Aqua Hoshino[src]

Frill Shiranui不知火 (しらぬい) フリル, Shiranui Furiru?」 is a supporting character in Oshi no Ko. She is a student of the Youtou High School's Performing Art Programs and a classmate of Ruby Hoshino. She is a multi-talented performer who can sing, dance, and act.

Appearance[]

By the words of Ruby Hoshino, Frill is the first person most people think of when they hear "pretty girl" with waist-length greenish-black hair that she wears loose with her bangs parted on the right side, lime green eyes with slit-like pupils resembling a cat or resemblance of a snake and two beauty marks; one on the lower right side of her lips and one under her left eye. For her outfit, she wears a white shirt, a dark blue jacket with yellow buttons and outlines, a grey skirt, white socks and maroon footwear.

Personality[]

Frill appears to be an aloof girl of few words and is attentive to the careers of others, quickly recognizing Minami Kotobuki and Aqua Hoshino and remembering their previous jobs when she first meets them.

Another facet of her personality is her sense of humor, which has been referred to as "actually pretty funny." When it comes to acting, her demeanor can dramatically shift based on whatever role is assigned to her. Such versatility in covering a wide range of emotions and personalities is what enabled her to build strong connections and make a name for herself. Despite this fact that made her in-demand, she still believes that actors should be chosen for the role because they are qualified, not because of connections.

Skills & Talents[]

One of only three five-star entertainers in the series, the other being Taiki Himekawa and Rio Mitano. Frill is famous for being a multi-talented performer who can sing, dance and act. However, arguably her biggest asset is her sheer popularity, which is often enough for people to hire her with her already being well-known by the time of her introduction and her notoriety not having waned since.

Etymology[]

  • Frill's surname Shiranui means "phosphorescent light" (不知火).
    • Phosphorescence relates to a type of light that glows softly in the dark and does not produce heat.

Trivia[]

  • The first names of both Frill and her sister from Kaguya-Sama: Love is War are clothing related.
    • The two are confirmed to be sisters in an interview with Aka Akasaka with Frill being the youngest of the two. [7]
  • Many of the characters from Kaguya-Sama: Love is War have their names based on characters or objects from The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, the surname Shiranui is derived from the Robe of the Fire Rat (火鼠の裘), also known as the fur of the Hinezumi, a Chinese mythical beast that live in volcanoes and cannot be caught on fire (火鼠不知暑).
  • Frill's name is mentioned in another one of Aka Akasaka’s works Renai Daikou. She is said to have starred in a live action adaptation of Dark Cipher.
