Tokyo Blade「東京ブレイド, Tōkyō Bureido?」 is the twelfth episode of Oshi no Ko anime adaptation and the premiere of the second season.
Synopsis[]
Rehearsals for the stage production of "Tokyo Blade" have begun. Aqua is using his acting as a means to uncover the truth behind Ai's death. However, the presence of Himekawa, the star of the Lala Lai Theatrical Company, strongly stimulates the cast...!?[1]
Summary[]
In an audience-packed theater, the room darkens and the screen splits open to reveal a lady performing a ritual. As a narrator provides the background of the story, the screen widens to reveal more of the stage. Then, one by one, the main characters of the play are introduced under the music of Japanese flute, lute, and drums. This is the Tokyo Blade stage play adaptation.
A scene where Princess Princess Saya lies dying in the arms of Touki is then briefly shown before returning to the first day of rehearsals where Akane and Aqua are practicing the particular scene when director Kindaichi calls for a break. Meanwhile Ruby is visiting her mother's grave, telling her about B-Komachi's latest achievement as well as her brother's recent work as an actor and girlfriend, before finally reaffirming her goal of performing at the Tokyo Dome.

Taiki and Kana immersed in their rehearsal.
As Aqua goes through the script, he notes that Kana is part of the protagonist group whereas he and Akane are the antagonists. The play itself is adapting the "Shibuya Conflict Arc," where the two groups clash. Akane approaches him to talk about Kana, the play, and their passion for acting. However, in Aqua's mind, acting is simply a means to get closer to the truth about Ai. After their break, they resume their practice. While the actors rehearse, the producer Raida and Kindaichi discuss the actors involved. The ones suggested by Kaburagi, namely Melt, who performed poorly during his time on Sweet Today, as well as Aqua, who is doing his first stage play, are both pulling their weight. Raida then hypes up the prospect of a face-off between Kana and Akane, the former and current acting prodigy but Kindaichi points out there is still Taiki Himekawa to consider. Taiki and Kana then rehearse together and the two of them thoroughly immerse themselves into their roles, leaving Akane stunned as she believed Kana was no longer able to pull off such a performance. This is what Kindachi wanted, as he believes that Lala Lai has become somewhat stagnant and hopes that they will get a jolt of competitiveness by working with outsiders.

Akane pouts at Aqua's attention toward Kana.
Stage plays usually have a month of rehearsals in advance and while some actors cannot be involved all the time as a result of their busy schedules, they do try to attend as much as possible due to their passion. By the third day, groups have formed among the actors but Akane notes that Aqua is mostly on his own and when she approaches him, she notices that he is observing Kana. Feeling a little jealous, she asks why he is paying attention to Kana. Aqua explains that Kana's acting matches those around her. With Taiki as her partner, Kana's acting would now be on another level and likely outshine Akane's. Akane gets annoyed by his remarks and points out it will be the same for Aqua. However, Aqua is aware of his limits and is not trying to compete with those with real talents.

Akane struggles with the changes to Princess Saya's character.
Akane puts her efforts into the rehearsals, but Kindaichi demands more intensity from her. She complies with his request but faces difficulties understanding her character of Princess Saya because of the significant changes made to adapt the source material into the stage play. On the fifth day of the rehearsals, the script writer Goa comes in person, and Aqua uses this opportunity to address Akane's concerns with the script regarding the way Princess Saya is portrayed. Goa immediately understands her concerns, as he feels conflicted while writing it. The truth is, if they faithfully adapt everything from the source material, it would take up too much time. Given the number of characters and the two-hour limit, he had to simplify things to prevent the play from feeling disjointed. Goa offers to revise the script for Akane, but Kindachi shuts down the idea as he prefers the way it is, arguing that by making the conflict simpler, the focus can be put on the intense action scenes.

Abiko and Yoriko arrive at the rehearsal.
Not long after, Raida introduces the cast to their special guests of the day, mangakas Yoriko Kichijouji and Abiko Samejima. Yoriko has a pleasant exchange with Kana and Aqua but gives Melt a frosty reception. The two observe the cast rehearse and Abiko is pleased by everyone's performance but she has a request to make. When asked, she wants to revise the entirety of the script.
