Dig Deep「深堀り, Fukabori?」 is the ninety-first chapter of the Oshi no Ko manga series. It is written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It was released in Weekly Young Jump on August 25, 2022.[1]
Summary[]
Following the scandal that plagued the show, a special edition of Dig Deep! One Chance is being prepared. Prior to filming, the chief director was considering issuing a written apology at the start of the episode with director Urushibara's unit suspended for the time being. The problem was who should issue the apology, the host would be barred by the agent to do it. Other ideas were thrown about such as using subtitles but Shun then presented a proposal prepared by Ruby. The plan was a special episode but it will involve Meiya and director Urushibara, the people who have been the center of the scandal. Having reviewed the plan, the chief director noted the risk but also appreciated that it would be fitting for a show like Dig Deep to do something like this. The plan does carry a fair amount of risk but ultimately producer Kaburagi approves the plan.
Filming for the special episode gets under way. Ruby first shows Meiya's tweet that started the whole debacle and the negative attention that the show has garnered. The focus of the episode will therefore be the show itself with Meiya appearing as a special guest. The host then apologizes on the show's behalf and thank her for coming. As Meiya prepares to respond, she remembers her meeting with Ruby. Ruby had come to her to discuss Meiya's time on the show. Ruby sympathized with her but also points out her action might leave a stigma for the cosplay community as a whole. Therefore it was imperative that she expressed more than just one tweet, she needed to address the issue properly. Meiya was uncertain of her next course of action since she was no streamer but Ruby had already come up with a solution.
Meiya states she is not there for an apology but rather to investigate the root of the issue, so a similar issue will not happen again. Ruby then cuts the show to the director of the problematic episode to explain the copyright issue that happened. Director Urushibara goes on the record, saying that Tokyo Blade was the plan from the very beginning and since the same organization was in charge of the anime, he had assumed the permission was a certainty but unfortunately he did not get the approval when he followed up on the issue. And due to a shortage of staff, he fail to confirm the issue in time. The in-house anime manager is interviewed next, who states that normally production committee are in charge of granting permission. However Tokyo Blade has a stricter requirement as it is also necessary to obtain permission from the original author as well.
With all that in mind, the show moves to their special reporter for the episode, Kana, for an interview with the author of Tokyo Blade itself, Abiko Samejima.
