Ruby Hoshino approaches assistant director Shun Yoshizumi constantly, continuing her attempt to follow Ichigo's advice to "be nice to assistant directors". However, Shun takes it the wrong way and thinks she is being nice because he is her type. Ruby worriedly says that Shun looks like he's sleep-deprived, and wonders if the work of assistant directors is as grueling as she heard. Shun dispels the notion by saying that there are regulations now and the situation is better compared to a decade ago.
Ruby, however, points out that it doesn't seem to be that way, noticing that Shun seems to be struggling as she sees a stack of energy drinks and cardboard boxes that are implied to be his bed behind him. Shun relents and admits that there is someone on their team who follows traditional rules before he is cut off by said person, director Urushibara. The director admonishes Shun for production issues that have come up, and Ruby looks on in worry.
Ruby asks Aqua Hoshino later about the director, and he reveals that Urushibara is a director from an external production company. He then starts talking about the inner workings of a variety show, different staff jobs in a variety show, and their job descriptions. Urushibara is revealed to be a problematic director, that has lost his job before moving to the current production company. Aqua also said that Urushibara only effectively has one assistant director right now since his other assistant director is recovering right now. Aqua then asks about her newfound curiosity about the set environment and wonders about what changed her mind. Ruby cryptically answered that she is growing as a professional, and he should be happy about the development.
Shun is seen working, drinking an energy drink as he explains that the assistant director's job is to do what he's told, even if he is told to clean the toilet. He even does overtime once he gets back home, and it results in him getting only three hours of sleep at night. Shun is dismayed as he thinks about how the budget for TV programs is being slashed here and there because youngsters are losing interest in TV in general, and it affects everyone on set as their schedule for filming remains the same.
Urushibara discloses to Shun that they will cover cosplayers in their next segment, and interview them. Urushibara discussed the current popular series, Tokyo Blade, and wishes to include someone cosplaying as a character from the series to boost ratings. Shun wonders about the permission to broadcast since the series is copyrighted, but Urushibara dismisses the concern by saying that he'll talk to the related department.
Shun is ready to contact some cosplayers who would be willing to be interviewed, but Urushibara wants him to find "interesting" cosplayers, not just any amateur cosplayers or those with a passion for cosplay. Urushibara also wants at least ten cosplayers, thinking that it would be easy to get them because he thinks they would jump at the opportunity for exposure. However, Shun is facing difficulty finding anyone willing to be interviewed. Coupled with the fact that Urushibara's strict request for the cosplayers, and that the Summer Comiket is happening next week, Shun is worried that they won't make it in time and has to do another all-nighter.
Whilst pondering on the situation, Shun is approached by Ruby, who wonders if there's anything she can do to help him, since he looks troubled. Shun at first tries to deflect, but then relents and asks Ruby if she has done cosplay before.
