Summary[]
Akane and Aqua walk around Takachiho, discussing about the coincidence that Aqua and Ruby's hometown being the destination for the work trip. Aqua laments over not having any vehicle to use to travel around, and Akane suggested a solution to him after asking if he has a moped license, which he does.
Akane and Aqua ride around in a moped, heading towards the hospital Aqua mentioned. In the hospital, Aqua asks around for Gorou Amamiya and figure out that the hospital considered Gorou resigned after losing contact with him for an extended period of time. Aqua has some flashback to his time as Gorou, including his time with the pregnant Ai Hoshino, and the place where he met his killer, before walking down the barren path to search for his previous life's body.
Aqua asks Akane to wait for him inside, but Akane insists on coming with him. They trek through a trail, and Aqua asks Akane a hypothetical question about finding a corpse of his "pet" from 15 years ago. Akane deduces that if the body is buried, it is possible to find the remains, but if the body is left alone, they might be eaten by wild animals and scattered throughout the forest, making it hard to find.
Akane finds Aqua's effort to find his pet admirable, not knowing any better. Aqua assumes that his old body must be buried, presumably to cover up the murder, and so he has no reason to exert effort to find it. Aqua then moves on to another place, apologizing to Akane for bringing her to random places, but Akane says she is following him out of her own will. They eventually arrive at an old house, signed as Amamiya family, and Aqua explains that it is an acquaintance's house left abandoned after all of their inhabitants passed away.
He then tells Akane about Gorou's family, pretending that he is said acquaintance. He explains about Gorou's mother bleeding out after giving birth to him, and how Gorou is entrusted to his grandparents because his father's identity was unknown. And as he grew up, he had an awkward, complicated relationship with his grandparents, feeling guilty that his existence came at the cost of his mother's life. Because of said guilt, he did not object to his grandmother's wishes for him to be an obstetrician, even though he wanted to be a surgeon.
Aqua then continues Gorou's story, by the time Gorou was taking care of Sarina, he was livid because Sarina's parents could not come as she teetered over the edge of her life expectancy. A veteran doctor told Gorou that parents like them were much more common than he thought, and he should be there for Sarina in place of them, since Sarina cared for him very much. Gorou watched over a frail Sarina, who gave him an Ai keychain she got from a capsule toy she got on a B-Komachi's concert. Sarina wanted him to take care of the keychain as if it was herself, and he gave her his word.
Sarina confessed her love for Gorou in her last moment as she touches his cheek, wondering about her life if she was reborn, but her words were cut short as she drew her last breath. Gorou could only watch as her hand limped over, shedding tears silently. Aqua's recount is over as he touched his cheek, in the same spot that Sarina touched his cheek in his previous life, his expression gloomy. Akane is shocked to silence from his story.
A mysterious girl surrounded by crows monologue over the twisted fate of people that God bring together. Two people that do not have mothers in their life, presumably Sarina and Gorou, and a mother that gives birth to soulless children, presumably Ai. She smiled as she vaguely hints of their fate's deeper significance.
