Mammon-Worship and Passion「拝金と情熱, Haikin to jōnetsu?」 is the one hundred and eleventh chapter of Oshi no Ko manga series. It is written by Aka Akasaka and Illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari.
Summary[]
In an environment as competitive as the Japan film market, filmmakers need to go through a couple of hurdles in order to get their projects greenlit. With Kaburagi on board as the producers, together with Gotanda, they present their plans to the various distributors. Unfortunately they struggle to get a big distributor on board due to the sensitive nature of the content.
Eventually they manage to get a distributor onboard, who are willing to cover the advertising expenses but that means they have to handle production expenses on their end. It is expected that the movie is going to require a budget of at least 100 million yen. To secure funding for the movie, Kaburagi and Gotanda start making the rounds to get investors on board to join the production committee. the potential investors all have different interest, whether it is a request for certain actress for a particular role or filming on location.
Gotanda is becoming frustrated by the money talk and so Kaburagi starts discussing their thoughts on film making. Gotanda shares his more idealist thoughts, hoping to be remembered and appreciated for years to come. Meanwhile Kaburagi is more of a pragmatist, he cares more about making sure the films are profitable. They then move on to the casting where the connections that Kaburagi has built comes in handy. The are people who he helped in the past have become famous or are the verge of doing so. And times like this is is the perfect opportunity to request them to return the favor.
Gotanda cannot help but appreciate people like Kaburagi because despite his talks about money, he is still passionate about film making and it's only because of people like him, films get made in the first place.
